The Pyro Systems 2000 (short PS2000) is a microprocessor
based systems for fireworks control.
It consists of at least one controlling unit - the Pyro Master - and several
Pyro Slaves to which the electric matches were connected.
1. The Pyro Master
This manual describes the programming of the Pyro Master and is the users
guide for all Pyro Masters.
The controlling unit - the Pyro Master
(click here to view a picture) - is installed into a solid 19 inch aluminum
case. Besides the fireworks control a charging units is installed
except for the PM 2001 light (see Product line).
This charging unit is able to recharge the internal lead cell battery of
the Pyro Slaves.
The following parts are now described:
-
User interface and the functions F1 to F4
-
Mains and key switch
-
Charging unit
-
connectors at front- and rear-panel
User interface and the functions F1 to F4
All shown display contents should only be taken as an example. They depend
on the programming of the channels and the used equipment i.e. the version
of the Pyro Master and the number and type of Pyro Slaves connected to
it.
In addition there could be changes between different firmware version
not only in the used language.
The user interface of the Pyro Master consist of a large illuminated
LCD display and a 19 key keyboard as well as four function LED's. The keys
are different colored for different functions:
-
The yellow key ("E" enter Key)
is used to confirm all inputs and to go to the next step within a function
-
The black keys ("0" to "9" numerical keypad)
are used for any numerical input
-
The blue keys ("+" and "-")
are used to decrease and increase all numerical values (channel number,
time ..)
-
The red functions keys ("F1" to "F4")
are used to select the different functions
-
The green keys ("C" clear keys)
are used to clear all or part of the stored data if they are pressed
together
After switching on the Pyro Master with the key switch the welcome text
is displayed:
Now one of the four functions or the Setup menu could be selected.
The currently chosen function can always be determined by the corresponding
LED switched on.
F1 Time Program (automatic fireworks control)
By pressing "F1" the programming of individual times for each channel is
selected. In the display a message like this:
is shown. Starting with the last modified, the channel number (C>), the
programmed time code (T>) and the number of the Pyro Slave (S>) at which
this channel is present is displayed. The cursor starts blinking at the
last digit of the channel number. Either by direct input of the channel
number (with the numerical keypad) or by use of the "+"/"-" keys the desired
channel can be selected. If currently no time code is stored for this channel
"Off" is displayed at T>. Should the channel already be stored in the manual
list (function F2) "Used" is displayed and it is not possible to store
a time code for this channel number.
By pressing "E" the cursor jumps to the minute, seconds and tenth of
a second location. The values could again be changed by either direct input
or use of the "+"/"-" keys.
The time code could be any value between 0:00.0 and 179:59.9 resolution
in a maximum time of three hours. (The maximum value could be limited to
one or two hours, respectively in the Setup menu.) Is the time code input
done the next channel could be programmed by pressing "E" or any other
function could be selected with the corresponding "F" key.
F2 Manual channel list (manual fireworks control)
With "F2" the function to store a list of channels, i.e. the order in which
the channels will be fired, is selected.
The contents of the display looks like this:
At Free> the number of available channels is displayed. Only with the "+"/"-"
keys the number i.e. the position in the manual list is selected. (The
maximum number is the number of already stored channels plus one.) The
currently stored channel number is displayed at C> and the corresponding
Pyro Slave number at S>. By selecting a number with an already stored channel
it is possible to change this channel number or to cancel it out of the
list. By selecting the next free entry in the list only a horizontal line
displayed at C> and S>. By pressing "E" the cursor jumps to the channel
input position. Either by direct input or with the "+"/"-" keys the channel
number could be changed. Should a channel already be programmed with a
time code or should this channel already be used in the manual list the
next free channel is displayed. By pressing "0" the currently stored channel
is canceled out of the list. All succeeding channels are scrolled one number
down in the manual list, to prevent empty entries.
Only after pressing "E" (the cursor jumps back to the position selection
at N>) the chosen channel number is stored is the manual list. If no channel
was selected the next free channel number will be stored to the list.
The number of free channels at Free> is adjusted accordingly.
F3 Test of all Pyro Slaves and used channels
With "F3" the test menu is called.
First the communication with each Pyro Slave is tested and the status
is presented for two Pyro Slaves at a time:
Pressing "E" presents the status for the next two Pyro Slaves.
The number after S is the number of the Pyro Slave.
Four different status could be present for each individual Pyro Slave:
-
"Off"
Either the Pyro Slave is not powered on or the communication link is
not present (cable defect or disconnected)
-
"16k", "32k", "64k"
The Pyro Slave is powered on, the communication is working proper but
the ignition voltage will not be connected to the electric matches. The
Pyro Slave is not active.
-
"Act"
In addition to the last comments, now the Pyro Slave is active and
after receiving the command from the Pyro Master the ignition voltage will
be connected to the electric matches exactly at the time the effect should
be fired.
This is a must response from the Pyro Slaves before a fireworks show
can start.
-
"Err"
An error occurred during the test of the communication link. This could
be due to a damaged cable or maybe a low battery voltage.
In addition to the status, the condition of the battery voltage is reported
for each Pyro Slave. If the voltage of the internal 12V lead battery drops
below 10.5V "Batt: low" is shown otherwise "Batt: ok" is shown. Of
course for not connected or not powered on Pyro Slaves no information is
presented.
If "Batt low" is reported it is not guaranteed that all electric
matches will be fired. Instead an external 12V battery should be connected
to the Pyro Slave.
After the status of the last two Pyro Slaves is presented the second
step is to check all used channels. With pressing "E" the result is displayed.
Two errors could occur:
-
No electric match is present for a programmed channel:

-
An electric match is found, but the channel is not programmed:

After each error the next information will be presented by pressing "E".
At the end the total amount of errors is displayed:
or,
in case of no errors:
F4 Fireworks control
With "F4" the fireworks control is enabled. All Pyro Slaves are requested
to enable the ignition voltage. Of course only when the status is active
this will happen.
The system is ready to start the fireworks. By pressing the red "Start"
button at the remote control the timer starts to run at 0:00.0 with 0.1
seconds increments.
A running fireworks show is represented by the F4 LED blinking.
Each channel with a programmed time is exactly fired when the timer
reaches that time.
Every time the black "Fire" button is pressed the next channel of the
manual list is fired until all manual channels are fired.
The last fired channel is shown at C>. The timer is running at T> with
15 minutes 44.8 seconds in the above example. The number of already fired
channels of the manual list is shown at N>.
In case of any problem there are two ways to stop the show.
-
A short interruption could be achieved by pressing the two green "C" keys
and the yellow "E" key at the same time.
The timer stops at the current time, but no stop signal is send to
the Pyro Slaves.
Now by pressing again the red "Start" button the show continues a the
time it was halted or by pressing one of the four function keys the show
will be stopped immediately.
-
To stop the show and to disable all Pyro Slaves it is safe to switch off
the Pyro Master with the key switch.
Of course in both cases it is possible to restart the fireworks show and
fire the remaining electric matches.
The show automatically stops at the "End time" configured in the Setup
menu or at the next full minute following the latest programmed time code.
All Pyro Slaves are deactivated.
After reaching this time no more channels of the manual list can be
fired. For a fireworks show with only manual channels for the "End time"
a value should be chosen large enough.
